About Susan
Hello, and welcome—I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m Susan, a licensed clinical social worker and EMDR and IFS trained therapist based in Virginia. I work with children, teens, young adults, adults, and families, offering in-person sessions in my Alexandria office as well as virtual therapy for residents of Virginia and Utah.
At the heart of my work is a strong commitment to and a deep belief in each person’s capacity to heal, grow, and move toward a more grounded and fulfilling life—even when things feel overwhelming or uncertain.
Over the past 30 years I have had the professional honor of working alongside individuals and families, supporting them through a wide range of personal life experiences and challenges, including anxiety, trauma, depression, emotional and behavioral concerns, and major life transitions. My path has included roles as a clinical director of children’s services, a mental health specialist within a school setting, and an outpatient therapist working closely with both youth and adults. I’m also a licensed school educator in Utah with an endorsement in social work.
A significant part of my career was spent in Salt Lake County, where I worked with at-risk and under-resourced youth and families. I also partnered with schools, behavioral health organizations, and state agencies, offering consultation and support. These experiences continue to shape how I show up in my work—with compassion, flexibility, and a deep respect for each person’s unique story.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, and deeply attuned to your individual needs. I draw from trauma-informed, evidence-based modalities including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and attachment-based approaches. Together, we’ll find what works best for you—whether that’s building coping skills, processing past experiences, or creating meaningful changes in your daily life.
I deeply value the connections I build with the individuals I work with. Therapy with me is a space where you can feel supported, understood, and gently challenged in ways that help you move forward. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, your child, or your family, we’ll work together to create a path toward greater clarity, resilience, and well-being.
